I just took the Chapter Coordinator training. I would like to start a chapter in my area, because the closest chapter is over 100 miles away.
I am a former zoo keeper, but I no longer work for a zoo or aquarium. I maintain my AZA and AAZK memberships, to stay in touch with the industry. I live in a remote area, at high altitude in the Rocky Mountains, which is underserved by any type of wildlife park or zoo. (Literally, the closest zoo is in Denver, almost two hours away... and they don't have a FrogWatch program. The closest zoo with an existing FrogWatch chapter is Cheyenne Mountain, in Colorado Springs, which is around a 3 hour drive.)
I want to contribute to FrogWatch and I'm willing to be a Coordinator, if that's what it takes. (I already paid for the online training.) What can I do?
Can I recruit a second coordinator and form a regional chapter that is just grass-roots and independent of a large organization?
Can I just be a coordinator for myself, so I can at least volunteer?
Can I join a larger chapter as a "Regional Outreach Coordinator", or something like that?
Or do I seriously have to participate as a volunteer under the "closest" chapter & drive for hours to participate in the training?
There must be others like me, who want to participate, but live in remote or rural areas with no "local" chapters available.
